Abstract

The work provides a short review of medium and small vakufs in Sarajevo in the XVI c., which, besides the big vakufs, had a significant share in the general development of Sarajevo. A list is given of these vakufs that are to be found in two defteres of the Bosnian sandžak. In the middle of the XVI c. more than 40 medium and small vakufs are registered, and at the end of XVI c. more than twice = 90. It is a fact that the vakufs registered in both these defters represented a significant cultural and economic factor. The legators of these vakufs were from various social scale from the heights of the Ottoman feudal class to people from the middle social stratum.
