Poet Sabit Alauddin from Užice as Kadi of Sarajevo and Bosnian Mulla

Abstract

On the grounds of new data the author brightens up some details from the biography of the famous poet in turkish language Sabit, a native of Užice. The author pays attention particularly to his serving in Sarajevo, where he was the kadi from the end of July 1700. to June 1702., and in the same time he filled the honour of Bosnian mulla. Sabit so journed in Sarajevo in a very difficult time in the history of this town, after the invasion and ravage of Prince Eugen of Savoya, and he found there the popu­lation decreasing in number by the war, pestilence, hunger and other misfortunes. The author brings out the contents of five documents, made by Sabit himself, expressing difficult situation. At that time several intelectuals and writers were practicing in Sara­jevo, the author cites them by name. Sabit is cited also. During his journey Sarajevo Sabit made literary works (Sabit's panegyric to the Bosnian vali Halil-pasha is from this period).
