Author Guidelines

The yearbook Annuals of the Gazi Husrev-bey Library, treats primarily Islamic scientific disciplines and other areas related to the holdings of the Gazi Husrev-bey Library and related institutions, as well as the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Southeast Europe in general.

Manuscripts may be offered as an original scientific paper, a scientific review, a professional paper, a research note, a discussion, a conference presentation, a book review, or a translation. The category of work is proposed by the author, and the final decision is made by the Editorial Board after an anonymous peer review procedure. Authors can submit papers in Bosnian and English.

Ethical and legal conditions

Submitting a manuscript for publication in the Annuals entails the following:

  1. All authors agree on the content of the manuscript and its publication in the journal.
  2. The manuscript has not been previously published, either in parts or in its entirety, in any language, except as an abstract, part of a public lecture, master's thesis or doctoral dissertation.
  3. The manuscript has not and will not be offered for publication to any other journal while it is under consideration in this journal.
  4. The Gazi Husrev-bey Library agrees to take over the work in compliance with ethical codes and legal norms.
  5. If the paper contains images, graphs, or large portions of text that have been previously published, the author will obtain written permission from the previous copyright owner to reproduce these items in the current manuscript, both online and in the print edition of the journal. In the manuscript, for all the mentioned materials, it will be properly indicated to whom the copyright belongs.

Peer review

The Annuals use double anonymous peer review, which means that the authors of the manuscript do not know who their reviewers are, and the reviewers do not know the names of the authors. Therefore, authors should avoid mentioning any information about the author after the title page. In case such information is necessary for some reason, we ask the authors to bring it to our attention in order to anonymize that part before submitting the manuscript to the reviewer.

Text structure and formatting

Papers in scope will not exceed 32 cards, i.e. 57,600 characters with spaces. Only unpublished manuscripts which are submitted to the Editorial Board in electronic and printed form will be accepted. Work must be coordinated according to the following instructions:

Format: MSWORD.doc or docx.

Font: Times New Roman, font size 12

Spacing: 1.5 spacing

Margins: 2.5 cm

Transcription: ZDMG transcription as follows:

Transliteration for Arabic, Persian and Ottoman Turkish for the libraries of organizational units, affiliated members and educational and scientific bases of the University of Sarajevo.

Criteria:

  1. This is a suggestion of transliteration, not transcription. This implies the conversion of graphic characters (letters) from one writing system to another, while pronunciation is secondary. However, the same letters are pronounced differently in different languages, so even transliterated characters do not always have the same pronunciation value. Therefore, for each of the three languages (vertically in the table), different characters are proposed for different graphic characters. As far as possible, duplicate solutions were avoided.
  2. The basis for this proposal is the transliteration of ZDMG. For the Persian and Ottoman Turkish languages, different pronunciation variants were taken into account in relation to the original Arabic letters, but the ZDMG system was followed in those cases as well.
  3. It is suggested that the authors' names and titles be written side by side in the Arabic script.
  4. For the Ottoman Turkish language, transliteration applies only to manuscripts, and for printed works the modern Turkish language is recommended.
  5. When transliterating the titles of alhamijado literature and their authors, use the spelling of the modern Bosnian language.
